From Joe. My. God. (a great blog)

Just got this today from Joe.My.God, a blog I've really grown to love and admire. I love these gay scandals involving anti-gay politicians. Delicious! He should join UnitedSexAddicts.com for sure!

RUMOR: Anti-Gay Alabama Attorney General Busted In Bed With Male Aide, About To Resign
There's been an explosion of chatter on Alabama-based blogs today that the state's Republican anti-gay Attorney General Troy King may be about to resign in the face of a sex scandal with a male assistant. According to multiple sources, King was caught in bed with the man by his wife and thrown out of his home.

Via Wonkette:
His [King's] gay lover is either a college “buddy,” or a very young youngster and “Homecoming King” from Troy University. What are the odds of a dude named Troy King getting caught in bed with a Homecoming King from Troy University? This seems like a wacky sitcom plot, on a gay porn channel. (Is this what that Will & Grace was about?)
King has been considered a front-runner for the 2010 Alabama governor's race. A spokesperson for current Gov. Bob Riley denies any plan for King to resign. It is rumored that it was Riley's office that actually leaked the scandal in the first place. King has been in the news most recently for his campaign to enforce a ten year-old ban on the sale of sex toys in Alabama, prompting an internet-fueled project to mail King unwanted dildos.

As a college student, King was a notorious anti-gay crusader, writing numerous letters to his college newspaper attacking AIDS victims as deserving their fates. While in law school at the University of Alabama, he demanded that the school suspend their Gay/Lesbian Alliance, calling it an "affront to Alabama" and "evidence of the perversion of America."

Fuck me, Patrick Duffy!

Patrick Duffy is one of those actors that I know zero about. I just know that he's a punchline on South Park. I couldn't tell you one thing he ever did. So thank you, Bill O'Reilly, for running a segment on Patrick Duffy and for showing this hot clip of him drying off on the set of Dallas. Now I know Patrick Duffy was on Dallas and he was fucking HOT! And thanks to the power of Tivo, I got this sexy-ass screen shot for you all. Enjoy!

No Iran For Me

I'm so bummed! I just cancelled my Cristmas plans. I was planning on spending the holidays in the Middle East but I just read on the Drudge Report that there are no gays in Iran. So I'm not going now. I would feel weird being the only one in the whole country. So, I guess I'll just stay home, this year.

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country. We don't have that like in your country. ... In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have this."

James Lyons 1960-2007

I am incredibly saddened and shocked by the news that James Lyons, my editor on Shooting Porn, has passed away. I loved working with this man. He taught me so much and I taught him nothing. It was a completely one-sided relationship. I've never worked with another person who I trusted more. I knew that I was damned lucky to have him on my film. We never socialized outside of the editing room but for 6 months, while working together, I felt like we were brothers. We haven't stayed in touch through the years but certain people visit your life for a brief time and impact you deeply and they're always with you in a way; that's how I feel about Jim. I'm sad about his death but I'm also angry. He should still be alive, he should still be making movies. He was only 46.

This is from Indiewire:

Remembering Jim Lyons: 1960 - 2007

James Lyons, known for his frequent work with Todd Haynes, died last week in New York. The editor and actor starred in and edited Haynes' "Poison," winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 1991. Lyons edited Haynes' other projects: "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story," "Dottie Gets Spanked," "Safe," "Velvet Goldmine" (for which he also co-wrote the story) and "Far From Heaven." He also edited Esther Robinson's Berlinale Teddy Award winning documentary "A Walk Into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory," which will have its U.S. premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next week. Born in October of 1960, James Lyons was a member of Act Up and was treated for H.I.V. for many years. He died of cancer on Thursday in a New York City hospital.

Lyons' other editing credits include Sofia Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides," Jesse Peretz's "First Love, Last Rites," and "The Chateau," along with Peter Friedman's "Silverlake Life" and Ronnie Larsen's "Shooting Porn," as well as Dan Harris' "Imaginary Heroes," Christopher Herrmann's "Ghostlight," Erik Skjoldbjaerg's "Prozac Nation," Tom Gilroy's "Spring Forward," Rea Tajiri's "Strawberry Fields," and John Johnson's "Ratchet."

In addition to his work as an actor in "Poison," Lyons also appeared as Billy Name in Mary Harron's "I Shot Andy Warhol," played artist David Wojnarowicz in Steve McLean's "Postcards from America," and also acted in "The Chateau," and Todd Verow's "Frisk."

A memorial visitation will be held today (Tuesday) in Port Washington, NY. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the James K. Lyons Memorial Fund, 47 Davis Road, Port Washington, NY 11050.

And here's a lovely piece John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig) wrote about seeing Jim for the last time:

We met in the early 90's at the "Poison" party at Limelight. He and his boyfriend Todd were impossibly glamorous. I was embarrassed to invite them to see me in "The Secret Garden" where I sang to birds. They came. He said he loved it. I cringed. He was only being kind. We became friends. He was the coolest. Not only did he have great taste, he was also brilliant. And funny! And hot. A dark, sexy, sexual man. Melancholy. We almost worked together but not quite. Two years ago he was going to make his short film. A beautiful story about Andy Warhol going home to feed his cat. A haunting image of him undressing for bed. He's wearing a diamond necklace under his shirt. Then he touches the scar on his chest. From the attempt on his life.

Last Wednesday. I'd been avoiding visiting. Too hard to watch him waste away. I texted him to see if he wanted me to come. No answer. John Bruce said he was too sick for a visit. Jim had been editing John's film from his hospital bed up until a couple of months ago. Terry suddenly called to say that Jim wanted to see us.

Friends in their early middle-age huddle in the cafeteria talking about the new bad news. "He wants to see people in ones and twos." "Hospice care." "Last chance chemo?" "Too weak." Amy says, "I told him there's a time to let go." Jim whispered, "There is a time to rest." What does that mean? A call comes. He's ready to see John and me.

His head is a rotting fruit on a stalk, the oxygen mask like a candy dish on his face. But he's still all there. Still Jim. Responding to the nurse with his funny Long Island Jewish shrugs. "Do you want more pain medicine?" Shrug, like "Meh." He wants to be lucid. "Agitated? Do you want Ativan?" Another shrug, like " What's the point, doll? I'm dying." John and I didn't know what to say. We can't understand his words, only the shrugs, which make us laugh. We don't know if we should. It was hard for him to write, words written over other words, like Cranium when you have to draw blindfolded. I try to make it out: "I don't...have anything to say... except...I love you...guys." We're barely able to speak ourselves. He tries to write again. We can't read it. This upsets him. King Lear: "When you can say it's the worst, it's not the worst." What is this then? Does he need something? He starts to write it again. Oh God. Wait... "What...are...you...up to?" Jesus Christ. I try to be light. "I'm looking at a script. Thinking about acting again. It's about..." He starts to nod off. That's how I felt about the script. The nurse wakes him. She's worried. He starts to write again. I shout out the words like it's a game show: "I need to pee soon!" She says, "You're wearing a catheter, hon. Go ahead." He lets go. A brief moment of relief on his face. We're starting to choke up. I say, "You've got a lot of wonderful friends downstairs, honey. High-caliber friends." He writes. We can't read it. He starts over. He tries to speak. It's a garbled cry. He must be feeling pain. Does he want his mother? She's lying down in the next room. What is he writing? Is the oxygen working? He writes: "High...fiber..count...friends." We burst out laughing. Goddamn it, Jim! "Your timing has not failed you I see. You're like a Beckett character," I say. He nods slowly. It's hard for him to see. I want him to see me seeing him. I move closer and look into his right eye. Very still, we stare, a single eye into a single eye, unblinking. I look so hard into that eye: "I love you. I love you. I love you." He hears. He doesn't blink. He's been so close to death so many times. Never has anyone clung so fiercely to life and been so ready for death. We kiss him on the forehead and mumble a few broken words. We don't want to take up his precious time. There are more people to say goodbye to. More people that he loves and that love him. We go down to the cafeteria and tell Tom that Jim wants to see him now. -- John Cameron Mitchell

Diet and Excercise

I've lost about 30 pounds over the last 8 weeks; this morning I weighed 289.02. I started at around 320 so I guess I'm doing something right. It shocks me how simple it really is: diet and exercise. I know those are the oldest words in the fitness dictionary but it's true. I try to hit the gym at least every other day and/or do something physical like bike riding. I'm gonna keep a tally on my blog so ya'll can watch me lose or gain weight. Today begins at 289.02. I took a camera phone pic when I hit 290. I'll keep adding pics of my scale to prove I'm really losing weight...or NOT!

Thanks to Miss Horwitz for inspiring me to join the gym and thanks to Mr. Manghise for teaching me how to read nutrition labels and for introducing me to these cool things called vegetables.

I made a little video about the whole fat thing, if you're interested, click below.

The Next Jennifer?

First there was Jennifer Holliday, then came Jennifer Hudson and now comes Ronnie Larsen. Should he change his name to Jennifer. Does he earn a place in the pantheon next to those two legends? Watch his version of "And I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going" from one of his favorite musicals, Dreamgirls, and decide for yourself if the the next great "Jennifer" has finally arrived.

Act Your Age

Note: I wrote this blog last year on April 13th at 8:17 PM. I'm not sure why I never published it but I'm doing lots of spring cleaning so I'm publishing it now. I have about 20 unpublished blog entries I'm gonna either delete or publish this week.

In college when I was 20 years old I had two serious relationships with two older men. When I say older I mean one was over twice my age (CM) and another was 30 years older (a puppeteer...how ironic). I had a great time with both men and they both taught me lots and they both wanted long term committments. One even quit his job to build a life with me. Oh Lord!

I lost interest in both of these relationships and I drifted away. I never really ended them I just sort of disappeared. That's how I remember it. Both men told me I had hurt them and one even said to me, "Wow, I really thought you were mature but now you're really showing your age." Ouch. I've never forgotten that.

For many years I carried guilt about the way those relationships ended and then about three months ago I had a major revelation:

50 year olds who date 20 year olds and then get hurt when the 20 year old moves on are total fucking idiots. What kind of person is a 40 year old who wants to date a 20 year old??? Honestly! If you're dating a 20 year old and you're 25 years older and you put expectations on that person, you need to have your head examined.

I can not believe I carried that guilt for all these years. I actually think I'm owed an apology.

Letting go of guilt is a wonderful thing.

If the two men who "I hurt" happen to stumble upon this blog, feel free to e-mail me an apology. And if any of you reading this are over 40 and obsessed with someone half your age, I beg you to let go and/or get help. And Lord, I beg you, don't ever let me fall in love with someone 20 years younger than myself.

The Chippendales 8 Go Free!!!

A short report about the 8 Chippendale dancers arrested in Lubbock, Texas for "gyrating and thrusting pelvises in a manner meant to cause "sexual gratification." Oh Lord! Will this country ever grow up????

Under the Gunn

While waiting to see the hairdresser who fucked my closeted ex-boyfriend (and by the way, closeted men are hot) I noticed my very un-closeted hero Tim Gunn on the cover of a magazine called Instinct. Is this a real magazine that peole read?

Anyway, the profile on Tim Gunn (Project Runway) was very interesting, he talked about being devastated by the way he was dumped by his last boyfriend and he says he has never gotten over it and that he will NEVER have another boyfriend because it was too painful.

I hate the idea of my hero, Mr. Make-It-Work-Gunn, having pain in his perfect body but the words his ex-lover used were so cutting, so rich, so harsh, so quiet, that I feel the need to repeat them here.

His lover simply said," I don't have the patience for you anymore." And poof it was over.

"I don't have the patience for you anymore."

This is my new favorite line. I hope to start using it often. I think the trick is to say it like a confession not bitchy. Don't say it mad, say it like it's a revelation.

"I don't have the patience for you anymore."

This is actually the reason I've taken a break from working in the theater.

"I don't have the patience for you anymore."

I'd like to see that on Google qoutes:

Random Thoughts #3

_____

Anyone who says there's NOTHING good on TV doesn't watch Charlie Rose, Real Time With Bill Maher, Meet the Press, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and yes I'm gonna say it, The O'Reilly Factor. TV has never been better or more diverse.
____

Just watched Rahm Emanuel on Charlie Rose. So smart and interesting. I just read his entry on Wikipedia. He's had a very full, interesting life. Heterosexual Ballet Dancer/Israeli Army Mechanic/Politician. He's missing half a finger, which I found kind of sexy watching him gesture.

To read about him

_____

Someone famous this week said, "Our troops in Iraq are being killed while George Bush has been vamping for time." A devastating thought. Though horrible, it's one thing for them to be killed fighting a fight the President believes in but the thought of them being killed while Bush
"vamps" for time is devastating. And the dismissal ofRumsfield just confirms that theory. What a tragic mess! I keep thinking of those parents who have lost their sons and daughters.

_____

I was appalled that in the middle of all the election coverage they kept breaking in to tell us Britney Spears has filed for divorce. On a side note, a defamation suit by Spears was thrown out cause the judge basically said, "you have the image of a slut so you're reputation can't be damaged worse than you've already damaged it."LOL I learned that in my own libel lawsuit with a certain porn star whose name I don't feel like typing right now. I learned you can't really damage the reputation of an alcoholic - drug addict - porn star - hooker. They have no reputation. There is no way to defame them. Therefore, there are no damages and therefore no lawsuit.

My high school reunion is in 15 days. It is consuming my life. I'm organizing it but we have a great committee. Here's the website in case you want to attend.LOL

Borat is being sued. It was bound to happen. I'm seeing it again tonight and then I'll blog about it. I'm still thinking about it from the first viewing. There is a scene in aPentecostal church that is the single most disturbing scene I've seen in a movie all year.

Click here for the article. http://www.tmz.com/2006/11/09/borat-lawsuit-high-five

This will be a VERY INTERESTING lawsuit with fascinating ramifications for documentarians.
Speaking of documentaries, I'm dying to See Jesus Camp, but it's not playing in Oceanside and I don't like the theaters in San Diego.
_____

The Prestige has sparked lots of discussion. That's a major achievement. Most films come and go with as little discussion as "It sucked", "It was ok ", "I liked it". I'm hoping too see The Prestige again. I suspect it can only really be dissected with multiple viewings. I was driving home a few weeks ago and it hit me, "Ohhhh, that's why Bale talks about not knowing which knot he used." Then when I got home I noticed that reader, Bret Angel, had posted that comment on my blog. Bret, you are so wise, and quicker than I. I'm so glad you aren't a porn star I fired.

____

I had sex with an ex-boyfriend in the back of his SUV. It was actually quite fun, uncomfortable and dangerous. Like being back in High School. I highlyrecommend it.

____

Visited a bathhouse in San Diego this week. It was very interesting. More about that later.
____

The "revival" of Lez Miserable on Broadway is getting mixed reviews but many feel the black actor, Norm Lewis, cast as the villain Javert should've been cast as the lead (Jean Val Jean) but they always cast the lead as a big, white, Teddy Bear-type and the producers lack imagination.
Interesting thought. It wasn't my thought but it's interesting non-the-less.
____

Had a huge personal revelation this week while driving.

"People like you when you do what they
want you to do."

The more I think about it, the truer it feels.

Doogie Comes Out!

Neil Patrick Harris came out today. I just blogged about this yesterday. I told him to come out. I guess he read my blog and took my advice. LOL

Next up: Sean Hayes and Clay Aiken...come on boys, time to grow up.

Story below from People.com

Neil Patrick Harris is gay – and wants to quell recent reports that he had denied it. The actor tells PEOPLE exclusively:

"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life. Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.

"So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."

Harris, 33, currently stars in the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother. He shot to fame in 1989 at age 16 when he played a teen-prodigy doctor on the hit Doogie Howser, M.D. "It was a very fast but wonderful education," he told PEOPLE in 1998.

After the show went off the air in 1993, he shook off his teen image with roles in the musicals Rent and Assassins and a wild turn as an unhinged version himself in the 2004 movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.

"I'm enjoying my 30s," he told PEOPLE in 2004. "I feel like I know where I'm going. And I like where I'm going."

E-mail Insanity

I have a recurring nightmare that happens while I'm awake. I spend a whole evening answering old e-mails. Then for the next few days, every time an e-mail comes in, I answer it right away. But then the nightmare recurs and I get behind again. I try to keep it under 40 but right now I'm at 85. I have committed my afternoon to answering them. Let's see how long this takes. The time now is 1:06 PM. I'll update this when I'm done.

Update 5:08 PM

I have 10 left. Took a break to talk to a friend who asked me if I'd heard about Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) who is widely known in gay circles to be a member of the family. Now, to be honest, I don't give a damn about Doogie Howser, but I really can't stand watching cowardly, self-loathing celebrities like Clay Aiken and Sean Hayes who are so obviously GAY and yet they hide and dodge and weave and play coy with the press. Grow up, people!

So, anyway, I guess some paper in Toronto mentioned Neil Patrick Harris being gay and supposedly his publicist responded with, "He's not of that persuasion." LOL Neil Patrick Harris should either come out of the closet or fire his publicist. Or both.

See how skilled I am at avoiding answering e-mail!

In fact, I looked out the window and saw this beautiful sunset and I ran right out to take a photo. More avoidance on my part, obviously. Man, I love my "backyard". Last week I saw Doplphins swimming in the waves. I really love Oceanside.

Ok, back to my last 10 e-mails. And does Borat really arrive tomorrow! Welcome, Borat! I'll be at the first showing.

Halloween Pedicure

Three weeks I struck a deal with my neighbor that if she would go see Jackass 2 I would go wwith her and get a pedicure. I've never had a pedicure before and I was reluctant to go but once I got there I jumped in, "feet first.' And by the end of the hour I was actually getting my toenailsd painted, black and orange for Halloween.

Then in the middle of my pedicure this macho Marine walked in with his wife and kids. I assumed he was there so his wife could get a pedicure but the wife just sat there and watched while he got his eyebrows waxed. I was so fascinated I took a camera pic.

Happy Halloween
