Unfortunately bullshit issues like this (abortion, immigration,..) are what the corporate spinmasters use to keep uninformed working-class people busy and voting for Republican politicians who work against working-class issues at every turn. They keep everyone in a frenzy over lapel pins and yellow ribbons so they can keep filling the pockets of the wealthiest 10% (who don't care about patriotism or gay marriage as long as they are getting rich).
But don't tell the "conservatives" that their "issue" isn't really an issue or you will get bombarded with talking points. And those talking points can put an eye out.
