The Stefani video made me nostalgic for the Sound of Music so I just added it to the top of my Netflix list. Here's your homework: compare and contrast these two videos.

Comparison: Both have an annoying refrain and are the whitest shit possible. Out of a possible 100 clean white linen sheets, The Sound of Music earns 99 and Gwen Stefani as a solo act earns 89. Gwen has ten points knocked off for having sex with Angelo Moore and one for her longtime relationship with Tony Kanal. The Sound of Music loses one point because the Nazis lose.
Contrast: Julie Andrews not being able to sing anymore is sad. Gwen Stefani having a second solo album is worse. I prefer Harajuku girls to puppets. How fucking rich were the Von Trapps? Fuck's sake, 20 goddamn puppets and multiple sets. I've seen less production at the fucking Shaw Festival. I can't stand child actors for the most part, so Sound of Music starts to bottom out quickly no matter how righteous the material. Gwen is a dynamic live performer, but for the early audiences of No Doubt, what we are getting nowadays is 10% of what we had in 1990.
I am old. But Ronnie is older and Julie Andrews is older still.
